Metal Tubular Products The specification of the American Petroleum Institute Steel line pipe that is welded and seamless is covered by API 5L X52 PSL2 pipe. This is steel pipe used in the petroleum and natural gas sectors for pipeline transportation systems. For moving gas, water, and oil, use API 5L. Only the capabilities of the manufacturer limit the size range. The minimum yield strength and ultimate tensile strength for grade X52 are 52000 PSI and 66000 PSI, respectively. The minimum yield strength of API 5L X52 pipe, often known as L360 pipe, is 52 Ksi (360 Mpa). Used for oil and gas pipeline transmissions, it is a medium grade in accordance with API 5L and isO 3183 requirements.
The International Organization for Standardization isO 3183, which standardizes offshore buildings, materials, equipment, and pipeline transportation systems for the oil, petrochemical, and natural gas industries, is followed by API 5L specifications. PSL 1 and PSL 2 were created by the technical committee that wrote the standards after recognizing that there are two fundamental Product Specifications Levels (PSL) of technical requirements. PSL 2 has additional chemical, mechanical, and testing standards while PSL 1 is a standard quality for line pipe. A25, A, B (and the following "X" Grades), X42, X46, X52, X56, X60, X65, X70, and X80 are the grades that fall under this specification. Following the "X" is a two-digit number that represents the Minimum Yield Strength (in 000 psi) of pipe manufactured to this grade.
API 5L X52 To handle the transportation of oil and gas under conditions of high pressure and temperature, pipes are particularly built. In particular for sour service and other demanding applications, hardness and impact resistance are strongly prioritized during the construction of these pipes. These pipelines are especially prone to stress corrosion since sour wells contain significant quantities of sulfur. Manufacturers frequently treat the surface of the pipes with anti-corrosion coatings like oil, varnish, or black paint to reduce this risk. This extra layer of defense increases the pipes' ability to resist corrosion, ensuring their durability and dependability in challenging conditions.
